2021-22 SeasonMarch 6, 2022To: Ryan Heggie, Lethbridge College Re: Warning
An incident which is of great concern has been brought to my attention. According to a report submitted to the ACAC office by game officials, you acted inappropriately on February 25, 2022 and February 26, 2022, while you were a spectator at ACAC Women’s Basketball games between Olds College and Briercrest College. It has been reported that you verbally harassed and questioned the officials from the sidelines repeatedly and that you directly challenged the credibility of one of the officials during the February 26th game. I understand that Todd Caughlin will address this incident with you. However, I feel that it is also important that I express my concerns as ACAC Commissioner. As you are aware as an experienced coach, ACAC team officials are expected to adhere to a high level of professionalism in the conduct of their duties. I direct your attention to Article I Section 3 Rule 3.1.3 of the ACAC Operating Code, which requires team officials to “consistently display high personal standards and project a favourable image of their sport and of coaching. In addition, Rule 3.17 requires team officials to “treat opponents and officials with due respect both in victory and in defeat.” The above rules apply to you as both a coach and as a spectator. You are a representative of the Conference at all times and it is vital that you conduct yourself accordingly. The purpose of this communication is to officially provide notice that future behaviour of this type will not be tolerated and will result in sanctions under the Ethics section of the Operating Code referenced above. Sincerely, Bill Hendsbee |
